Video Game Character of the Month - August 2015 - Rico Rodriguez - Just Cause

Video Game Character of the Month
August 2015
Rico Rodriguez
Just Cause
Overview:
Rico 'Scorpio' Rodriguez must have a pretty fun life. I mean, he can survive just about anything and his job is to grapple around and destroy stuff (and get shot but we'll ignore that). And now for a bit of information on the action hero of action heroes:

He is, apparently a mixture of thousand of comic book and action movie action heroes such as James Bond, Mad Max, Jason Bourne, El Mariachi, Wolverine, Punisher, Rambo, Tony Montana and Han Solo (as well as Scorpion from Mortal Kombat)
He was born in the 25th January 1968 in Mexico
His star sign is Aquarius
He has a tattoo of a scorpion on his upper left arm
He wears a crucifix and is Christian
His homeland is Medici
His mother is from Medici
It is unknown who his father is
He was a racecar driver before he joined The Agency
He was approached by the CIA (specifically, Tom Sheldon) when he was 21 although it has been stated that he joined The Agency at age 18
He then joined The Agency, an organisation of covert black ops agents used to overthrow dictatorships
He was once in a romantic relationship with Maria Kane
His mentor is Tom Sheldon
In Just Cause 1 he resembled Sheldon Jeffery Sands from the 2003 film Once Upon a Time in Mexico
He can grapple around everywhere without breaking his arm (and can even survive great falls if using the grapple, even at the last minute)
He has a strong Spanish accent
He can use every type of weapon/vehicle and can hack into any computer without specific training

Origin of Rico Rodriguez:
The developers have stated that Rico is "The child of one thousand comic books and action movies. He is James Bond, Mad Max, Jason Bourne, El Mariachi, Wolverine, Punisher, Rambo, Tony Montana and Han Solo all rolled into one. With a touch of Enrique Iglesias to top it all off!". As such his character is based off of and is a combination of all these action/comic book heroes as well as any other action based trait you can think of. Furthermore, he appears to resemble Sheldon Jeffery Sands from the 2003 film Once Upon a Time in Mexico as well as sharing similarities with Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. Rico also started out as being more neutral about what he was doing and who he was facing, although he's always been aware of the absurdity of his job.

Evolution of Rico Rodriguez:
Over the course of the three Just Cause games, Rico has developed quite a bit. First of all, he has aged quite a bit (with him now being 47) and become less neutral/kind about his job and, rather, gets annoyed at pedestrians and steals without a second thought whilst also becoming more aggressive and having a darker sense of humor. Well, I suppose you would become more rugged and aggressive after, almost single-handedly (what do Sheldon and Kain do, really?) taking down two dictatorships (oops, spoilers) and helping five gangs get what they want. And it looks as if Just Cause 3 will add vengeful to Rico's list of personality traits... In addition, his stunt skills have improved over the course of the games and he's gained control over more and better equipment (including an improved grappler). Finally, he's been forced out of retirement twice thanks to terrorists and dictators (no wonder he's annoyed!).

Games:
Just Cause
Just Cause 2

Anticipated:
Just Cause 3

That's all on the all-action, all-ridiculous Rico Rodriguez but make sure to comment if I've made a mistake or missed anything as well as any other characters that you'd like to win the award!

Goodbye for now, Harry
