Video Game Character of the Month - August 2019 - Solaire of Astora - Dark Souls

Video Game Character of the Month
August 2019
Solaire of Astora
Dark Souls
Overview:
While you may have taught us to 'praise the sun', don't think that we've forgotten to praise you! But while we can't get you your own sun (whatever that means), we can give you an award that shines like one. I am, of course, talking about the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month Award, now in its sixth (!) year! An award even tougher to achieve than beating Dark Souls itself. Praise the sun!

Video Game Character of the Month - July 2019 - Nana and Popo - Ice Climbers

Video Game Character of the Month
July 2019
Nana and Popo
Ice Climbers
Overview:
Looking at the ever-increasing Smash Bros. roster, I’m reminded just how many great characters we have in the world of video games. Complex characterisation, detailed designs, fully formed faces (I didn’t mean to start this alliteration, but we’ll keep going), contrasting colours (OK, we’ll stop now)... But there’s one character which I feel doesn’t get nearly enough recognition, even for just hanging in there. Well, actually, there are two characters. That right, the Ice Climbers are the newest recipients of the Video Game Character of the Month Award:

Video Game Character of the Month
May 2019
Aqua
Kingdom Hearts
Overview:
Is it done? Can I come out now? Yes, that's right, dear readers, I've finally finished enough of Kingdom Hearts 3 that I feel comfortable searching keywords (pun intended) involving the franchise. And, therefore, I think it's time to give Master Aqua another award. And this one is even harder to achieve than the Mark of Mastery. It's the Video Game Character of the Month Award!
And now for a little bit of info on Aqua:

Video Game Character of the Month - March 2019 - Lydia - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Video Game Character of the Month
March 2019
Lydia
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Overview:
'I am your sword, and your shield'. Thanks Lydia, but now that I have Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield (there, Satamer, is that enough of a plug?) I don't really need you to be. 'I am sworn to carry your burdens'. Terrific, but I'm telling you that I don't need your service anymore. 'I am sworn to protect you'. Seriously, Lydia, you can leave. 'I have a bad feeling about this'. Alright, what if I give you the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month award? Then will you leave? 'As you wish, my Thane'. Fantastic.

Lemmings
Overview:
Ah, the Lemmings, you've made it! Now you just need to head over to this sheer cliff and collect your award. Ah, there you go, aren't they just the cutest? I really feel proud at this moment that they've finally achieved the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month award. It really is the greatest day... wait. No. Don't just keep walking! Video Game Character of the Month - October 2018 - Lucina - Fire Emblem

Video Game Character of the Month
October 2018
Lucina
Fire Emblem
Overview:
It is said that Lucina appeared from [REDACTED] in order to save the world. I know this to be false. She actually appeared to receive the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month award. Well, that and to go shopping for some more, truly awful, fashion choices.
And now for a little bit of info on Lucina:

Video Game Character of the Month - September 2018 - Fox McCloud - Star Fox

Video Game Character of the Month
September 2018
Fox McCloud
Star Fox
Overview:
Star Fox, I mean 'Fox McCloud', is one of the galaxy's best pilots, and certainly one of the best anthropomorphic fox pilots. And, while his main game series may have slipped slightly into obscurity (although Captain Falcon of F-Zero would argue that Star Fox is alive and kicking in comparison), he's certainly still very relevant in Super Smash Bros. tournaments. And, as an original Nintendo mascot, I think it's only fair to say: Fox, 'do a barrel role' and come and collect your Video Game Character of the Month Award!

Film Review No. 43 Ant-Man and The Wasp (12+)

Strong Points:
More fun and interesting uses of the Pym Particle powers
A great script
Some brilliant one-liners
Interesting villain powers
More Luis lip-syncing
A better look at the Quantum Realm
Some great costumes
Mid-credit scene
Explains the repercussions of Captain America: Civil War and why Ant-Man wasn’t in Infinity War
Paul Rudd as Michelle Pfeiffer
A nice pallet-cleanser after Infinity War

Weak Points:
Felt like a filler episode before Avengers 4
Very quick pacing – because it has to take place in the same time-frame as Infinity War
Perhaps not to do with Ant-Man and The Wasp enough to justify the title
Some comedic breaks in tension fell flat

Spoiler warning for Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War

Video Game Character of the Month
July 2018
Galen 'Starkiller' Marek (Starkiller)
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Overview:
For completing his final test, making me feel like an all-powerful Sith/Jedi, Galen 'Starkiller' Marek's, has been granted the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month Award. Now only two goals remain for the Star Wars production team: to finish the Force Unleashed Trilogy rather than leaving it as the Half-Life of movie tie-ins, and to grant Chewie his own medal for his role in a New Hope.

Overview:
Ah, Brigitte Lindholm, the faithful and honourable squire. You and Reinhardt may feel that chivalry is its own reward but we here at GamesAppsAndReviews also feel that you deserve to receive the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month Award (to be honest, you deserve it for changing the dive meta and allowing me to rack up some wins on deathmatch - oh, and for the whole protecting the world thing).

Video Game Character of the Month - March 2018 - Characters of One-Touch Games - One-Touch Games

Video Game Character of the Month
March 2018
Characters of One-Touch Games
One-Touch Games
Overview:
Tap, tap, tap. Swipe, swipe, swipe. Restart, restart, restart. Delete game, move on to next one. This is generally how it works in the world of One-Touch games, a new breed of games made for phones and short attention spans. Ideal for a bus journey or when waiting for the headteacher, these games are made to be easy to learn but challenging to master, ideally so you can restart a lot and watch more adverts. This means the games have to have easily recognisable controls and characters with about as much personality as the aforementioned headteacher to allow you to relax and play without thought. However, I believe these characters deserve a special place in our gaming history, being halfway between mascots and grunts, and as such deserve this award.
Here's some information of these One-Touch Characters:

Video Game Character of the Month - February 2018 - Cappy - Mario Series

Video Game Character of the Month
February 2018
Cappy
Mario Series

Overview:
Ah, here we are, the Video Game Character of Month, come to collect its award. But what's that it's wearing? Is that a cap? Oh no, no, he's found me... Cappy, Scourge of the Kingdoms, Master of the Odyssey, Finest Dresser 1988. Run! Run! Save yoursel... Cappy! I... I mean Cappy will now be receiving the Video Game Character of the Month Award. Please ignore my new cap, it's just a fashion statement, not a mark of possession.

Video Game Character of the Month - January 2018 - Spyro the Dragon - Spyro Series

Video Game Character of the Month
January 2018
Spyro the Dragon
Spyro Series

Overview:
In the gaming industry's current quest to reboot all of the 90's gaming mascots (Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Rachet and Clank etc.), Spyro has been sadly ignored. So, in order to show everyone's favourite purple dragon some love, I have decided to award him with the most prestigious award in all of gamingdom, the Games Apps and Reviews Video Game Character of the Month Award (which, interestingly, is also the holder of The Longest Award Name in Gamingdom Award).
A little bit of information on Spyro:

Film Review No. 32 Thor: Ragnarok (12+)

Strong Points:
Great comedic moments
Amazing special effects
Superb fight scenes
Korg
Ties up a load of loose plot threads
Back-references galor
Sets up for Infinity War
The Valkyrie
Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster
Hulk’s Toddler-esque speech
Anthony Hopkins as "Loki"
Chris Hemsworth has been allowed some freedom
Luke Hemsworth and Matt Damon’s cameo
Thor’s lighting powers
Dr. Strange

Weak Points:
Some of the jokes are only going to be funny once or twice - rewatch-ers will miss the tension
Lack of tension due to continuous wisecracks
The whole ‘Hulk being all powerful’ scenario is becoming a bit unbelievable as he keeps losing
Are we supporting Loki now or...?
Where’s Jane Foster (and, for that matter, Lady Sif)?
The Warriors Three's end

Video Game Character of the Month - June 2017 - D.Va - Overwatch

Video Game Character of the Month
June 2017
D.Va
Overwatch

Overview:
Hana Song (AKA D.Va) has had no shortage of success in her 19 years of life. At 16 she became the number 1 StarCraft 2 player in the world and held that title for the following three years. She's starred in a movie, 'Hero of my Storm' and become a world class MEKA pilot with a worldwide, online following, sponsorship and an Overwatch membership. And we would expect no less from someone who's signature quote is 'I play to win'. But I think that the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month award tops them all. Congratulations D.Va and 'GG'.

Top 5: Video Game Franchises That Deserve The 'Marvel Treatment'

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the greatest cultural phenomena of recent times and is one of the main contributors to the rise of the 'shared universe' template for franchises that consists of many stories told through various mediums such as film, books and TV shows. In order to survive and thrive, the franchise has to have a cast of colourful, interesting and relatable characters and an in-depth setting as well as an enjoyable story arch that can be fleshed out by those who are interested by hidden Easter Eggs and sub-plots while still being basic enough to be glanced over by casual fans. Another important aspect of shared universes, at least to get them off the ground, is to have a well-established bank of lore and fans to provide inspiration for the massive story undertaking that is to take place. This is why shared universes based off of comic books, novels, toys and films have succeeded so well. However, there is one medium that has yet to have the 'Marvel Treatment': video games (Activision's attempts at Call of Duty and Warcraft aside). And, while there is a good reason for this (just think about the quality of video game films over the years) I still think that we should give it another go and make the shared universes of our video game dreams.
And, so, without further ado, welcome to my list of the top five video game franchises that deserve the 'Marvel Treatment':

And yet no matter how many Neck Flips, Insane Air Times and Levels he completes, his dream is always just that little bit further ahead and just that little bit further away than his fuel supply allows. So, we here at GamesAppsAndReviews have decided to give him another award to keep him going - the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month award!
And now for a bit of information on Newton Bill:
