Video Game Character of the Month - July 2017 - Doomguy - Doom

Video Game Character of the Month
July 2017
Doomguy
Doom

Overview:
Ah, Doomguy, the quintessential action hero, fearless in peril, staring down hell itself with a look of mild amusement. No one person has done more for the FPS genre than you have. Simply marvel- Oh, sorry, was that too much exposition? See it's difficult to tell, seeming as you don't speak and, and OK I'll stop now. You have the award OK? Why am I glowing?...
And now for some information on Doomguy:

Also known as The Marine and Doom Slayer
He has had multiple incarnations
He is a silent protagonist
He's meant to represent the player
He doesn't like demons
He could be the descendant of William "B.J." Blazkowicz
He can wield a huge array of weapons
He has been seen as more or less muscular and 'human' depending on the game in the series
Only the Cyberdemon has made him fearful
He's quite angry - all the time
Glory Kills are a favourite pass time of his
He's dabbled in skateboarding
He could be Caucasian
In Doom (2016) he's been reffered to as a Legendary Warrior from The Night Sentinels
In Doom 3 he's characterised as either a marine or a combat engineer (in the expansion pack)
He collects Doomguy figurines
He has only recently gained the ability to look up and down...
...As well as jump and crouch
He doesn't take too kindly to needless exposition
He has light-brown hair in a buzz cut
He can carry a machine gun and a shot gun at the same time
He has blue eyes
He's 6'
He weighs roughly 180 lbs
He has a fondness of colour coded doors
He's been strengthened by the souls of hell

Origin of Doomguy:
Created by Tom Hall in The Doom Bible, he was one of several planned characters, although these didn't come to fruition for the final version of the game. The closest character to the eventual Doomguy was called Buddy Dacote, who was meant to die at the end of the game (Dacote is an acronym for Dies At the Conclusion Of This Episode). Doomguy nearly did in the final level of the firer episode in Doom but he continues his adventure instead. Doomguy was designed by Adrian Carmack and Kevin Cloud, while John Romero (co-designer of Doom) has stated that Doomguy is designed to be a symbolic persona of the player.

Evolution of Doomguy:
Overtime, Doomguy has developed more of a personality of his own, showing a light-hearted side when collecting Doomguy figurines and being generally a hero of humanity. Generally he's portrayed as fearless, although in Doom 3 its shown that the Cyberdemon scares him. Over the years he has also changed in body shape, with both Doom 64 and Doom 3 adopting a less muscular appearance than the original. He's also changed suit, with the original green armour darkening in Episode IV of The Ultimate Doom, changing to black in Doom 64, back to green in Doom 3, swapping into a dark blue suit in Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (different Marine as well) and darkening again in Doom 2016. He's now gained the ability to look up and down, crouch, run and use more weapons as well as commit Glory Kills.

Thanks for reading, Satamer.
