Video Game Character of the Month - June 2019 - Professor Willow - Pokémon Go

Video Game Character of the Month
June 2019
Professor Willow
Pokémon Go
Overview:
Ah, the professors of Pokémon. Always there to offer advice, a double-edged compliment, the tools to enslave creatures of any region, a friendly smile and confusing conspiracies about our own parents. Oh, and of course, to expand our knowledge of the various types of trees in the world. Now, while all of the professors in the Pokémon universe are probably deserving of this reward, I've decided to give it to Professor Willow of Pokémon Go fame specifically, for one reason. The love of Pokémon Go has transcended the core series much like the first games all those years ago, so to award an honour such as this to the incumbent Professor allows an even greater audience to notice and hopefully fall in love with the entire series through our blog. SEO. Ah, the cynical nature of the world...
And now for some more information on Professor Willow:

He has grey hair
He always wears a white lab coat
Instead of giving a trainer their first Pokémon like other professors, he gives them their first Pokéballs
He specializes in Pokémon habitats and distribution, much like Professor Birch
He worked in a lab as Professor Oak's assistant before setting out on his own
His mother researched Pokémon ecology
His father was fascinated by the outdoors
He is an only child
His birthday is July 21st
Players can transfer their Pokémon to Professor Willow in exchange for candy.
He was the first one to recognise the mythical Pokémon Meltan
He has three assistants - Spark, Blanche and Candela
His dream is to explore uncharted lands and to examine and document new Pokémon species in their natural habitat
His English voice actor is Robbie Daymond
His Japanese voice actor is Nobuyuki Sakemoto
While he may seem outgoing and confident, Professor Willow has a pretty strong shy side
He gives you field research and special research to find rare and powerful Pokémon

Origin of Professor Willow:
Professor Willow first appeared in Pokémon Go as a 2D sprite, welcoming the new trainers to their first adventure. He gives them their first Pokéballs and explains how to catch Pokémon, challenge gyms, use PokéStops etc.

Before becoming a Pokémon Professor in his own right, Professor Willow worked as an assistant to Professor Oak. His mother research Pokémon ecology and his father was fascinated by the outdoors, both likely contributing to his chosen career.

Evolution of Professor Willow:
After the 0.97.2 update on March 27th, 2018, Professor Willow grew a third dimension. Please don't say it was the candy...

On April 23rd, 2018, Pokémon Go hosted a mini-event called Professor Willow Week. Players were encouraged to post their fan arts and cosplays of Professor Willow on social media. On April 24th, facts about Professor Willow started to be posted on social media, carrying on for the rest of the week.

Games:
Pokémon Go (select dates): released (Australia/North America) on July 6th, 2016/(Europe) on July 13th, 2016/(UK) on July 14th, 2016/(Japan) on July 22nd, 2016 on Android/iOS

That's all on Professor Willow but, as always, if I've missed anything out or made a mistake then please don't hesitate to comment! Also, if you have any suggestions on future recipient's of the award then please comment as well!

Thanks for reading, Satamer.
