Video Game Character of the Month - September 2017 - Death Prophet - Dota 2

Video Game Character of the Month
September 2017
Death Prophet
Dota 2

Overview:
*At the desk of Satamer* Time to choose the next character to win the prestigious Video Game Character of the Month Award. Let's see, we've had Mario, Pikachu, Sora, Red the Bird, Rico Rodriguez, that ball from Colour Switch... Ooh, how about Overwatch? That's got a lot of heroes. Oh, we've given two of them awards already. What's another game based around heroes? What's Dota 2? Is it popular?

I have, of course, played Dota 2 (although my measly 26 hours might not constitute as 'playing' to some) and one hero seems to have more luck than any other - Death Prophet. And here's some information about Krobelus:

Her name is Krobelus (as previously stated)
When she was alive she acted as a Death Prophet - allowing the wealthy to pierce the veil and look beyond
She tried to unlock Death's secrets by using her life
She really wants to stay dead...
...But always comes back to life
Every time she is brought back to life, she brings a little bit of death with her (these wraiths make her dress)
She can send out a flock of the damned to destroy her enemies
She can silence enemy spell casters
She can syphon health from enemies
An exorcism can be performed to allow the wraiths inhabiting her to wreak havoc on the living, but they will always return
At some point, she, along with Io and Silencer, had a colour palette change
She is viable as a Carry, Pusher, Nuker or Disabler
She is often built to be a Tank
She is voiced by Ellen McLain, the same actress who provides GLaDOS's voice, our previous award winner
She is one of 113 playable heroes in Dota 2
She is an Intelligence hero
She originally had the ability Witchcraft
She may have been taught her skills by a person called Deathbride
Her body is made of ectoplasm
She may have been the Witch of the Outlands or befriended/mimicked them

She seems to have known Shadow Shaman before battle
She claims to have seen the battlefield of the Ancients multiple times during her dreams
She uses Ranged attacks

Origin of Death Prophet:
Death Prophet was added to Dota 2 on the 9th December 2011, in the beta period of game development, having originally been in DotA Allstars from the 3rd February 2004. In-game, her bio tells the story of Krobelus the Death Prophet, who, tired of letting other see through the veil of death, decides to uncover the secrets of her own fate. When the mysteries of death allude her for too long she decides to take desperate action, exchanging her life for the secrets of death. However, all was not simple, as she is cursed to come back to life, losing that one thing that all beings take for granted - an eventual demise. With each trip to the other side, Krobelus becomes less alive and it is her hope that soon her next trip will also be her last.

Evolution of Death Prophet:
Besides the colour palette swap that occurred sometime in Dota 2's updating, Death Prophet can also change her appearance using many cosmetics including The Corpse Maiden set, Vesture of the Unkind Countess set, The Morning Mother set and the Temptation of the Mothbinder set. Her Hero Talents are as follows: Level 10: +12% Magic Resistance/+5% Spell Amplification, Level 15: +150 Cast Range/-1.5s Crypt Swarm Cooldown, Level 20: +50 Movement Spell/10% Cooldown Reduction and Level 25: +8 Exorcism Spirits/+600 Health

Games:
DotA Allstars: released (World Wide) in 2003 on Mac OS, OS X and PC
Dota 2: released (World Wide) on July 9th, 2013 on PC/released (World Wide) on July 18th, 2013 on Linux

Well, that's it on Death Prophet but, as always, if I have made a mistake or missed something, please don't hesitate to comment! Also, if you can think of another character that is worthy of winning the Video Game Character of the Month Award, then please comment as well!

Thanks for reading, Satamer.

  1. Don't mean to burst your metaphorical bubble but when you mentioned she can be used as a Carry, Pusher, Nuker or Disabler it isn't that she can be used for any of those roles seperately but she is able to perform those roles at any given time for any given scenario but the lore was good.

  2. Good lore but I feel like we differ in opinion as to the best dota character Rylai or Furion in my expert unbiased opinion would far outrank her

    1. Thanks for the comment! If I'm completely honest, I'm sure there are many better characters in Dota 2, it's just that I haven't played them yet!
